Item Description
Collage
16" x 12" x 1.5"
Beverly Silva's years of working in the city and her trips downtown as a child, were the inspiration for her ongoing series of mixed media cityscapes. Her urban narratives chronicle city life without depicting an identifiable location, seeking instead to capture the essence of the city. She also combines her love of collage with her passion for recycling. She carefully deconstructs discarded vintage books, destined for the recycling bin, and gives them new life as contemporary abstract art. A member of Attleboro Arts Museum, Pawtucket Arts Collaborative and Warwick Center for the Arts, Silva exhibits frequently in group and open juried shows.
"Prelude No. 24" is part of a series of deconstructed book collages. Salvaging worn, discarded books that have outlived their usefulness, Silva takes them apart to create highly textured collages. Inspired by their linen covers with notes scrawled inside, and their discolored, brittle pages, Silva uses only original materials that honor the book's history. It is a pleasure to rescue these vintage treasures from the recycling bin and give them new life as contemporary abstract art.
