Item Description
Encaustic mixed media
9.5" x 7.5" x 1.25"
Dot Bergen is a self-taught encaustic artist. Dot is fascinated with physical processes that reference the passage of time, including fossilization, mineralization, weathering and erosion. She leverages her advanced degrees in Biology to inform her point of view. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries including The Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA; Spring Bull Gallery, Newport, RI; and Dee Dee Shattuck Gallery, Westport, MA. Her studio is located in Little Compton, RI.
"Water Lily" is part of a current body of mixed media works in which the artist incorporates fiber into the wax. The addition of fiber allows for a directional and purposeful accumulation of texture (accretion) that plays off of the surrounding textural elements. The changing surface colors give off a watery vibe.
