John Duke Kisch is a retired commercial photographer from New York City, who lives in Rhinebeck. In 1976, he became the first graduate of Bard College’s newly-formed Photography Program. Since then, his work surrounds music, fashion, television and landscapes and has been featured in major magazines and newspapers worldwide. A cinephile since the early 1970s, he amassed and preserved (for over 40 years), The Separate Cinema Archive, which documents, through memorabilia, the history of African-American cinema over the past century. In 2019, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art acquired his rare collection of over 37,000 items to be featured in its galleries and research library when the museum opens in 2025.
