Item Description

This sterling silver pin is an exemplary piece of Luella Schroeder's artistry, rendered with a modernist's touch in its abstract floral design. The brooch showcases Schroeder's deft ability to marry line and form, as evidenced by the harmonious arrangement of polished petals and flowing stamen that gracefully rise from the circular base.

The brooch is crafted from high-quality sterling silver, as indicated by the "STERLING" stamp, which assures its purity and composition. The artist's initials "LCS" are discreetly stamped on the back, marking it as an authentic piece by Schroeder.

Embracing both the solidity of geometric shapes and the organic flow of natural forms, this brooch strikes a delightful visual balance. Its lustrous finish not only captures the light but also highlights the three-dimensional aspect of the design, making it a striking accessory to any attire. More than a mere ornament, this brooch by Luella Schroeder is a piece of art that echoes the serene yet indomitable spirit of Vermont's landscapes.

About the Artist:

Luella Schroeder (1918-2004) was a multifaceted artist whose rugged individualism led her from a career at Cranbrook Institute of Science to the serene landscapes of Vermont. Her journey began with a deep engagement in the natural sciences and art, which fused elegantly in her role creating dioramas and photographing collections at CIS. In 1958, Schroeder embraced her passion for silver jewelry making and moved to Vermont, drawn by its spirit of self-reliance and creativity. Here, she blossomed as a jeweler, her work gaining national acclaim, including a prestigious Lifetime Membership from the Vermont Handcrafters for her dedication to Vermont crafts. Her creations, celebrated for their ingenuity and connection to nature, reflect the essence of Vermont's last stand of rugged individualists.
