ACTIVITIES
-Our Heritage Guest Ranch: Nestled in the foothills of the picturesque Pine Ridge of northwest Nebraska, Our Heritage Guest Ranch provides unique recreational experiences on a family ranch that was established in 1887. It is surrounded by the Oglala National Grasslands, which enhance the beauty of our open spaces and unique geological formations.
-Toadstool Park Geologic Park: The spectacular rock formations and unusual examples of the effects of water and wind over millions of years make the Toadstool Geologic Park Trail Hike a definite "Must See" on any Western Nebraska Sandhills travels road trip. The Park is in the Oglala National Grasslands and is in an area sometimes called the Nebraska Badlands.
-Fort Robinson State Park: Western Nebraska's premier state park, Fort Robinson, west of Crawford, has it all -- with more than 22,000 acres of exquisite Pine Ridge scenery, compelling old west history, exceptional lodging, loads of fun-time activities, scenic camping and the park's own buffalo and longhorn herds.
- Husdon-Meng Bison Bonebed: A visit to Hudson-Meng Education and Research Center is a visit to a modern archeological excavation in progress. Interpretive exhibits and guided tours help you to understand why this is such an important discovery, and encourage you to develop your own theories about what happened to the bison.
-Agate Fossil Beds: During the 1890s, scientists rediscovered what the Lakota Sioux already knew - bones preserved in one of the most complete Miocene mammal sites in the world. Yet, this place called "Agate" is a landscape that reflects many players – from early animals roaming the valleys and hills, to tribal nations calling the High Plains home, to explorers passing through or settling in the American West.
-Hot Springs Mammoth Site: World’s largest mammoth research facility. You can tour an active paleontological dig site and view Ice Age fossils exhibited as they are found. Open year round, the Mammoth Site offers the museum visitor a 30-minute guided tour plus a 10-minute video. Tour information features the Mammoth Site and Ice Age geology, paleontology, and paleoecology. Today, visitors to the museum observe first-hand a scientific excavation.
-Mount Rushmore National Memorial: Mount Rushmore National Memorial is host to almost three million visitors a year from across the country and around the world. They come to marvel at the majestic beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota and to learn about the birth, growth, development and the preservation of our country.
