Red Thread Study is made of woven copper wire which was oxidized until a rich blue patina developed, and then embroidered. Sayward recently exhibited with the 44.4 Mother/Artist Collective at the OAG in 'Nobody Sees a Flower'. In early 2025 she will have a solo exhibition at the Ottawa School of Art.
La pièce Red Thread Study est faite de fils de cuivre tissés qui ont été oxydés jusqu'à l'obtention d'une riche patine bleue, puis brodés. Sayward a fait parti de l’exposition Personne ne voit une fleur, du collectif 44.4 Mother/Artist, à la GAO. Elle présentera son travail dans le cadre d’une exposition solo à l'École d'art d'Ottawa début 2025.
Item Special Note
Sayward Johnson is a copper and textile artist. She knits, she weaves, she hammers, she plays with green patina, she embroiders, and she plays with wax. She uses these techniques to explore personal experiences and reflect on political and social issues. Sayward's work has been support by the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Ottawa, Craft Ontario, and the Canada Council for the Arts.
Sayward tisse, tricote et brode, le plus souvent avec du fil de cuivre. Diplômée de NSCAD, elle a présenté son travail partout au Canada et vendu ses œuvres à des collections aux États-Unis, au Canada et en Europe. Ses projets sont soutenus par le Conseil des arts de l'Ontario, la ville d'Ottawa, Craft Ontario, le CAO et le Conseil des arts du Canada.
