An off-grid house at the top of the gorge, overlooking the entire city of Taos, and at the entrance of two trail-heads for those hikers and bikers out there.

It's an experience. The sunsets, the quiet (except the elk and the coyotes), the sky and the stars at night, the ability to breath and take a breath.

So enjoy. We do. It's a piece of paradise -- a lost way of living. Off the map.
The space
All are welcome -- ethnicities, orientations, kids, dogs, etc. Please know, however, that you shouldn't let your dogs (or kids) run around unattended (especially if they're small) because of the coyotes, rattlesnakes, scorpions and birds of prey. Part of living in the wild, living with nature, and living in the National Forest. They won't bother you if you don't bother them.

Our home, even though it's off-grid, is a comfortable place to rest, relax and regroup. It has a point-of-use hot-water-heater for the shower, the oven works off propane, the gorgeous stone fireplace and wood-burning stove will heat the entire house (but we have added propane heaters and drapes to help with the heat), you don't need air conditioning because it will stay cool all day, and a composting toilet (ok, that part's a little rustic, but it's just a toilet). We have 4 bars with Verizon. You can use your phone as a hot-spot to get WiFi. So all the conveniences of home, with a lot of extra ambience.

When we aren't enjoying it, you can. Best time to go is Spring and Fall, although I personally love winter. In the Spring and Fall, the nights are cold and the days are warm; and the desert comes alive with flowers. The sunsets are gorgeous, the hammock awaits. Winter is my favorite because I build a big roaring fire, watch the snowflakes fall, and snuggle in. (Summer gets a little warm, and it’s rattlesnake season), so not our favorite time of year.)

we welcome older kids, but the house is not kid-friendly, i.e., no railings to get upstairs, stone floors, corners on wood tables. If they're older kids, they should be fine. We are not worried about kids hurting our stuff — we are more worried about kids getting hurt.

Terms: Holiday/Peak Seasons limited. Dates confirmed 90 days or less from check in. Cleaning fee of $199 + local taxes paid upon confirmation of dates. Expires one year from auctions ending date.
