One of three original watercolors donated to our 2024 auction by Veriditas supporter and watercolor artist, Myrna Kappler, this larger piece is another beauty. Throughout her Chartrespilgrimage with Veriditas this past June, Myrna took photos of scenes that caught her eye and captured her imagination. Back in her home studio, she chose some of her favorites to inspire her
watercolor creations.

In this version of On the Way to the Cathedral, Myrna has chosen a warm and colorful palette as she plays with color and light. Who can help but want to step in and join her on her walk?

Notes from the artist on this piece:

This is one of my favorite photos taken while in my pilgrimage to Chartres in June.  I love the curving street with the Cathedral in the distance.  I began with a pencil sketch and studies.  Part of my process was to experiment with different combinations of paint and I liked the hues achieved with Maimeri paint.

About the artist:

For 24 years, I have been playing with watercolors.  For years, family and friends received original watercolor Christmas cards from my photos of Sonoma County, CA and trips to Lyon, Paris and Sedona.  My training is from reading watercolor magazines, workshops in San Francisco, Berkeley, Sonoma County and on YouTube.  In 2020, I began taking a weekly watercolor class.  For the last three years, I have been part of a weekly plein air group that meets at the Sonoma Coast or inland, rain or shine.

Note:  If needed, Myrna is also happy to discuss suggestions for framing the piece which is on Fabriano watercolor paper.
