Original Watercolor

We are thrilled to be offering three original watercolors donated to our 2024 auction by Veriditas supporter and watercolor artist, Myrna Kappler. 

This small, lovely painting, titled On the Way to the Cathedral, was inspired by a photo the artist took when she attended a Veriditas program in Chartres, France this past June. For anyone who has been to Chartres, it’s sure to spark memories. And those who haven’t…maybe it will spark your desire to go! Myrna's artistic talent was ever-so-evident when she graciously opened up her home studio for a tour and conversation with our auction coordinator, Jenny Slama. Full of vibrant colors, beautiful paintings and creative energy, it's easy to see the love Myrna puts into each piece she creates – whether it be for our auction, an art show or commissioned work.

Notes from the artist on this piece:

This is one of my favorite photos taken while in my pilgrimage to Chartres in June.  I love the curving street with the Cathedral in the distance.  This is one of my studies for my larger painting.  Began with a pencil sketch and studies.  Part of my process was to experiment with different combinations of paint and I liked the hues achieved with Maimeri paint.

About the artist:

For 24 years, I have been playing with watercolors.  For years, family and friends received original watercolor Christmas cards from my photos of Sonoma County, CA and trips to Lyon, Paris and Sedona.  My training is from reading watercolor magazines, workshops in San Francisco, Berkeley, Sonoma County and on YouTube.  In 2020, I began taking a weekly watercolor class.  For the last three years, I have been part of a weekly plein air group that meets at the Sonoma Coast or inland, rain or shine.

Note:  If needed, Myrna is also happy to discuss suggestions for framing the piece which is on Fabriano watercolor paper.
