Original Watercolor

We are thrilled to be offering three original watercolors donated to our 2024 auction by Veriditas supporter and watercolor artist, Myrna Kappler. 

While on pilgrimage with Veriditas in Chartres, France this past June, Myrna took thoughtfully composed photos which she then used back in her studio as inspiration for her wonderful watercolors. This piece, Sunset in Chartres, is her expression of a favorite photo she took as the sun was setting. She was particularly drawn to the colors tracing the sky and the gentle curve of the street. Notes from the artist on this piece:

This is one of my favorite photos taken while in my pilgrimage to Chartres in June.  I loved the colors in the sky and the curving street.  I did some value studies and a practice painting.  I kept playing with the painting removing paint and later adding the street lights.

About the artist:

For 24 years, I have been playing with watercolors.  For years, family and friends received original watercolor Christmas cards from my photos of Sonoma County, CA and trips to Lyon, Paris and Sedona.  My training is from reading watercolor magazines, workshops in San Francisco, Berkeley, Sonoma County and on YouTube.  In 2020, I began taking a weekly watercolor class.  For the last three years, I have been part of a weekly plein air group that meets at the Sonoma Coast or inland, rain or shine.

Note:  If needed, Myrna is also happy to discuss suggestions for framing the piece which is on Fabriano watercolor paper.
