Item Description
This unique artwork was created on the streets of Chartres in front of the cathedral during the September 2024 Veriditas Pilgrimage! The new paver roadway features electrical boxes and manhole covers with a labyrinth design. Lauren Artress herself was pleasantly surprised, remarking 'You know you are doing something right when the city of Chartres starts incorporating labyrinths into the city streets!"
Inspired by his mentor Robert Ferre who made early studies of the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth with rubbings (sold in previous Veriditas online auctions), Veriditas Faculty and Staff member Lars Howlett created this rubbing with an oil pastel and completed the design by tracing the design with his fingers! The result is a one-of-a-kind art created with an imprint of the streets of Chartres by the fingers of a labyrinth maker.
The oil pastel is made on two loose pieces of paper that can be framed for display or kept as a collector's piece.
