Deana Blanchard began her stained glass studio practice in 1978. Chuck Young joined her in 1984 and over the years they have melded into one, Selena Glass & Metal. Their tagline is "Four Hands - One Voice." They live in the woods in Burnsville, NC, making pieces that allow folks to step back, take some time to breathe, and contemplate as nature drives us all forward. For more information and art visit www.selenaglassandmetal.com.

"Rainbow Tree" began with a bi-color piece of fused stained glass that Deana carved with abrasive. Layers of resist were removed to create the textures, then oil paint was applied to the abraded surfaces. The paint was rubbed and rubbed to push it into the texture created by the sandblasting. Finally, metal leaf and powders were applied. The glass was mounted on a patinated copper backing that is nailed to Baltic birch plywood for stability. A three inch black steel shelf completed the artwork.
