Item Description

Cast paper

18" x 22" x 1"

Victoria Guerina is a sculptor working in RI. Her work is varied and includes monumental bronze sculpture, bronze portraits of notable women of history, portrait and still-life charcoal drawing, and more recently, cast paper reliefs of sea creatures and other themes. Her work can be seen locally, nationally and internationally including sculptures in the Firemen's Memorial Park, Bristol, RI, the Whaling Museum, Nantucket Island, MA, the Women's Rights National Historical Park, Seneca Falls, NY, and the Rhami M. Koç Museum of Industry in Istanbul, Türkiye.

"A Lucky Catch" is a paper cast relief depicting an octopus with a tentacle about to capture a fish swimming by. The image of the octopus and fish is seen as light and shadow play across the surface of the artwork. The white paper reflects the mysterious nature of these sea animals and their ethereal quality. This piece is the third press of an edition of 10, and part of a series of works depicting sea creatures and ocean themes.
