Item Description
This 20 ¾” Tohono O’odham monumental double rattlesnake basket showing each with their tongues extended and their “buzzers” deftly woven through double coils of the basket. Traditionally, very few weavers wove rattlesnake baskets because of superstition, and when they did so, those daring weavers would only weave them during the winter when the rattlesnakes were in hibernation. One this large, especially depicting two rattlesnakes, is rarely seen. This came from an old Tucson collection. Circa 1960. The description and appraisal of value is provided by Terry DeWald, a member of the Antique Tribal Art Dealers Association.
