Item Description

"African Leopard" 14" x 17" by Steve Jackson is a striking and detailed representation of one of Africa’s most majestic and elusive predators. Rendered in charcoal, Jackson masterfully captures the intensity and grace of the leopard, drawing attention to its piercing gaze and the powerful yet elegant lines of its form. The use of charcoal adds a raw, tactile depth to the artwork, highlighting the leopard’s intricate pattern of spots and the sleek contours of its muscular body.

The minimalist background contrasts beautifully with the rich textures of the leopard, ensuring the viewer’s focus remains entirely on the animal’s poised and commanding presence. Jackson’s skillful shading and attention to detail bring the leopard to life, allowing the viewer to connect with the spirit of this iconic creature.

Steve Jackson, a resident of Kapaa on Kauai, finds inspiration in the natural beauty of the islands for his artwork. “Art has always been a passion of mine,” he shares. “Aside from a single drawing class in college back in 1966, I’ve had no formal training. It wasn’t until I retired in 2008 that I began exploring drawing and painting more seriously.”

Now, Steve creates art purely for enjoyment and relaxation, often accompanied by the soothing sounds of Hawaiian music. His preferred mediums, pencil and charcoal, help him capture the essence of his surroundings, as he seeks out subjects that naturally bring their own beauty to life on paper.
