Item Description
2023 Mount Vernon Annual Ornament - "The Homecoming"
Continue or start the tradition of collecting our exclusive Mount Vernon Annual Ornaments.
George Washington enjoyed the quiet holiday period as it gave him the perfect opportunity to visit with his family and indulge in his favorite Christmas treat, the "Christmas pies." During colonial times, gift-giving was not a common practice. However, Washington made sure to rush home to Mount Vernon in time for Christmas in 1783 after resigning from his military commission in Annapolis. This was the first time he had been home in over eight years, and he made sure to bring gifts for the children of the family. This special occasion marked a memorable Christmas for the Washington family, and it goes to show that even in the midst of war and political turmoil, the importance of family and tradition was never forgotten.
This years ornament depicts a winter scene at Mount Vernon with George and Martha Washington arriving home in a horse drawn carriage. The reverse (see photo) is inscribed - The Homecoming 2023, "Peace, with all the world is my sincerest wish" G Washington, Aug 15, 1798
The 2023 ornament is approximately 3" diameter. Red ribbon for hanging included. The ornament is packaged in a colorful gift box with an informative enclosure card.
