About Survival By Design Cards
I created Survival By Design Cards in 2008 after earning a certificate in Advertising and Print Design from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). My career path has lead me towards creative work: communications jobs and graphic design projects, mainly for larger nonprofits. Survival By Design Cards was born out of a desire to make my friends laugh. My earliest memories of love and humor on paper come from my mom who used to tuck funny little notes into my lunch box in elementary school. In high school, I created “super silly notes” to cheer up my friends struggling to pass our Honors classes. In college, as a musical theatre turned philosophy major, I was known for my dark, little Valentine’s Day cards. Today, designing greeting cards for my own line and for licensing uses my love of color, typography, and simple, clean artwork. I am inspired by mid-century modernism, the beauty of decaying industrialism, kitschy folk art, and the natural colors created by low light outside at the end of a day. A Providence, RI native, I currently live in Lynn, MA with my husband Seth, and smart and sassy daughter Maya. I travel frequently to Rhode Island to visit friends and family, and to eat at my favorite vegan restaurants. We love taking road trips to someplace new. We have driven to Chicago, Pittsburgh, Ithaca/The Finger Lakes…and we always have time to stop in New York City.
