Item Description

When Betty Egan and Barbara Williams first started sourcing inventory for the Black Sheep Provisions vintage clothing shop in Littleton, NH, they used online auctions like this one. In one of those early auctions, a political statement t-shirt from the 1970s came up for bid. It was a simple beige cotton tee with the words KEEP YOUR LAWS OFF OUR BODIES emblazoned across the front in flock- printed navy blue. Flock printing was a technique commonly used in the 70s which fused thin velvet letter appliques to the fabric. The effect was a raised textural surface with a high-quality feel that belied its cheap production costs. They felt strongly about the message behind this t-shirt and got into a bit of a bidding war over it. As you might have guessed, they ended up winning the bidding and overpaying for this little gem. To make the most of it, they reproduced the t-shirt with one single-run tee in colors similar to the original. This is the single-run tee. It's still a timely message, unfortunately, and it was a popular item in the shop, selling out fast for every run. What became of the original t-shirt? It's framed in a shadowbox case, as any museum-worthy period piece should be.

T-shirt size: XL

Comes with a matching vintage beret!
