TRIP FORMAT:

Your adventure will begin at the base of the Mt. Washington Auto Road, where you'll meet MWOBS executive Director, Drew Bush. As you ascend the 8-mile road, you'll take in the incredible scenery of Pinkham Notch and the Presidential Range. Stops will be made to take in incredible views, check-out the Observatory's cutting-edge technology, and talk about the history and environment of the Northeast's highest peak.

When you reach the Summit you will have gained more than 4,500 feet of elevation, traveling from the temperate forest, through tree line, and into to the alpine zone–a rugged, otherworldly landscape of earth and sky.

The rest of your day will be planned around the mountain's incredible weather, but will include:

  • Ample opportunity to explore the summit and what it has to offer while taking in the 360 degree views
  • A behind-the-scenes tour of the Mount Washington Observatory's famous mountaintop weather station, where you'll learn about the institution's work and see the instruments used by Observatory scientists
  • A trip to the top of the instrument tower for a birds-eye view of the summit from the highest point on the mountain
  • A delicious, homemade lunch
  • Tour and time to experience the immersive Extreme Mount Washington Museum delivers the science and excitement of a Mount Washington through high-tech, hands on exhibits. Learn how rime ice forms and pilot a snowcat. Get a taste for life in the alpine zone, no ice axes required!
