Item Description

This image features a beautifully hand-painted skateboard deck with a striking blend of vibrant colors and organic elements. The artwork prominently showcases a detailed skull adorned with an abundance of flowers in shades of pink, orange, yellow, and blue. Surrounding the skull, lush green foliage cascades downwards, contrasting with the cool, blended background of blues and greens.

The art style is a fusion of surrealism and folk art with influences of contemporary floral illustration. The combination of the skull and flowers evokes themes of life and death, reminiscent of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) symbolism. The expressive brushstrokes, bold outlines, and layered colors give the piece a painterly, almost dreamlike quality.

Interpretation of the artwork suggests a juxtaposition between mortality and renewal, as the skull—often associated with death—becomes intertwined with the blooming flowers, which symbolize growth, beauty, and the cyclical nature of life. The vibrant, energetic palette reinforces a sense of celebration rather than mourning, making this piece a statement on transformation and the coexistence of opposing forces.

The surrounding art supplies, including acrylic paint and markers, indicate that this is a handcrafted piece, further enhancing its uniqueness and personal expression.

Amy Canfora is a self taught artist from Surfside Beach, SC.  Her favorite mediums are oils and acrylic pens.  She finds that painting relaxes her and allows her to explore parts of her mind where memories often get lost, the brush resurecting them.
