Item Description
This image displays a skateboard deck featuring a quirky, surreal character set against a vibrant background. The central figure is a humanoid form with a cardboard box for a head and torso, complete with a dollar sign on its chest and a red bow on top. Emerging from the box are bright green tentacles with pink suction cups, wrapping around the character's exposed human legs, which are dressed in black heels. The backdrop is a gradient of deep blue and neon green, with a hazy full moon or glowing orb behind the figure, creating an eerie glow. There is also water or liquid beneath the figure’s feet, adding to the surreal environment.
Art Style:
The style is reminiscent of lowbrow or pop surrealism, blending cartoon-like elements with dark humor and absurdity. The bold outlines, exaggerated features, and playful color palette give it a street art or comic-inspired aesthetic. The design has a punky, irreverent vibe often seen in underground or outsider art.
Interpretation:
The cardboard box with a dollar sign may symbolize consumerism or identity shaped by materialism, while the monstrous tentacles suggest something hidden or sinister beneath the surface. The blend of human and monstrous elements creates a feeling of discomfort, humor, and curiosity. The heels and bow add a layer of irony, contrasting the monstrous tentacles with traditionally feminine imagery.
This artwork could be interpreted as a critique of societal pressures or the strange fusion of innocence, greed, and monstrosity. It invites the viewer to explore the absurdity and contradictions within modern identity and consumer culture.
Overall, this skateboard design is playful yet thought-provoking, fusing street culture with surreal commentary.
Item Special Note
Rick developed his love for art from the early 90’s skate artists. An avid skater himself, Steve "Salba" Alba's witch doctor and Kevin Staab’s pirate decks are his all time faves. Steve chose his boards based off the bold and loud graphics of his favorite skate artists. It wasn’t who he thought was the best skater, size or shape. The graphics are what did it for Rick. Rick would find thrashed out decks and draw his own designs if he couldn’t afford to buy a new one. Rick, like a lot of us, understands the mission of Heart of Stoke. Not because he checked out the website or read the mission statement but because he was one of us growing up. Rick can be found at Calaveras Custom Tattoos San Antonio, Texas and more of his work can be seen on Instagram at @rickrosastattoos Rick is available for commisions.
