Item Description
Donated by: Brian and Marilyn Lappin
From the village of Belleek in Ireland, comes this delicate vase with hand painted shamrocks…perfect for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration or gift! Irish Belleek china is deservedly famous for its beautiful craftsmanship and charming designs. Typical of these delicate china items is the mother-of-pearl luster. This is a new, 2006 piece; see ‘mark’ photograph. Measures 7 ½ “ x 3 ¾”.Belleek creations are highly collectible and The Belleek Collectors International Society includes over 7500 members. Begun in 1849, Belleek china and pottery were created in order to sustain employment for tenants of the Castlecaldwell estate in the aftermath of the potato famine. A geological survey of the land revealed necessary raw materials for pottery: feldspar, kaolin, flint, clay and shale….and the rest is history! A destination for tours in Ireland, the original Belleek factory now houses the Visitors Centre.
